Beyond the Law - giving back to our local community

At Bowes Legal, we believe that being a great law firm means more than delivering exceptional results in court, it means showing up for our community. We’re proud to be deeply embedded in Central Queensland, actively contributing to causes that matter and supporting the people who support us.
From surf lifesaving to housing advocacy, access to justice, and mental health initiatives, we roll up our sleeves and get involved.

Walk ‘n’ Talk for Mental Health

We’re proud to support Walk ‘n’ Talk for Mental Health, a local initiative helping break the stigma around mental health through regular community walks and fundraising events.

  • In May 2025, we sponsored two golf carts for their annual charity golf day
  • We also sponsor their monthly X-Golf nights, held on Monday nights, helping create connection and conversation through sport
Walk ‘n’ Talk Collective is a Central Queenslandbased mental health initiative founded by local tradies Jordan Meehan and Chris Bennett. Both men understood firsthand the isolation and anxiety that can come with working away from home, and together they set out to break down the stigma attached to mental health – especially among men and families in regional communities.
Every few weeks, Walk ‘n’ Talk Collective hosts community events where locals simply walk and talk – no pressure, no judgment. It’s about giving people a safe, informal space to connect, to share the load, and to feel less alone.
At Bowes Legal, we’re proud to sponsor and support this initiative – whether we’re helping on golf carts at fundraising events or joining their Monday X-Golf nights – to encourage that each step and conversation makes a difference.

Vinnies CEO Sleepout 2025 — Leaders Standing for Change

In 2025, our Director Jane Bowes raised over $7,000 for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, an annual event supporting people experiencing homelessness.

The 2025 Vinnies CEO Sleepout marked the 20th anniversary of this powerful initiative where CEOs and senior leaders spend a cold winter night sleeping out to raise awareness and funds for Australians experiencing homelessness .

The funds go directly toward accommodation, meals, and essential services provided by the

Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club

Bowes Legal’s own Courtney served as Chief Training Officer at the Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club, training and mentoring the next generation of lifesavers on our coastline.

Leadership in the community isn’t just about legal advice – it’s about helping others build skills, safety, and confidence.

Central Queensland Community Legal Centre (CQCLC)

We volunteer our time with the CQ Community Legal Centre, providing free legal advice to rural and regional clients.

  • We participate in their monthly volunteer program, giving locals access to legal guidance they may not otherwise receive
  • Our commitment to access to justice extends well beyond the courtroom

Reach – Rockhampton & Environs Affordable Community Housing

Courtney also serves as a Director at Reach, a local organisation focused on securing affordable, stable housing for vulnerable members of the Rockhampton and wider Central Queensland community.
REACH Limited is a not-for-profit community housing provider in Central Queensland dedicated to offering safe, affordable housing to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Memberships That Matter

We’re proud members of:

  • Central Queensland Law Association (CQLA) – Supporting the legal profession in CQ and fostering collaboration, networking, and advocacy for regional lawyers.

  • Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) – A national body advocating for the rights of individuals and access to justice across Australia.

It’s Personal

We don’t just show up in court – we show up in our community. Because being a truly client-focused, values-driven firm means leading with heart, giving back with purpose, and backing causes that matter.
